Darkot Pass is a high-altitude mountain pass located in the Hindu Kush range of the Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan at a height of around 4,703 meters above sea level. It connects the Yasin Valley with the Ishkoman Valley in the Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan. The pass lies close to the border with Afghanistan. Darkot Pass is located in a remote and rugged mountainous region. The journey typically begins from either the Yasin Valley or the Ishkoman Valley. The pass is inaccessible during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and avalanches. Even during the summer, the journey through the pass can be challenging due to its high altitude and difficult terrain. The pass has historical importance as it has been used for centuries as a trade route between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It was part of the ancient Silk Road network, facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and culture between the regions. The areas surrounding Darkot Pass are inhabited by groups related to different ethnicities, including the Local Wakhi and Burusho communities. These communities have their own unique cultures, languages, and traditions, contributing to the cultural richness of the region. Despite its tourism potential, Darkot Pass remains relatively undeveloped in terms of infrastructure. There are limited facilities for trekkers, including basic accommodations and food supplies in some villages along the route. However, efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and promote tourism in the region. The area surrounding Darkot Pass is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, including pristine lakes, lush valleys, and towering mountain peaks. The pass itself offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscapes, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers.
