Overview

Trango Tower, also called “Nameless Tower”, due to the lack of any local or officially assigned name, is a distinctive rock spire that rises dramatically from the surrounding landscape, located in the Trango Valley, part of the Baltoro Glacier region in the Karakoram Range. The tower stands at an elevation of approximately 6,286 meters above sea level. It is one of the tallest vertical rock faces in the world, making it a popular destination for advanced rock climbers and mountaineers. From a group of dramatic granite spires, collectively called Trango Towers, the great Trango Tower is just one of several gigantic peaks in this cluster. Significant formations in the group are the Right or Main Tower which is 6282m in height, West 6,223 m, Southwest 6250m, and East 6231m. The whole area is surrounded by towers which are Muztagh Tower, Biange Tower, Lupsang Tower, Uli Biaho Tower and Payu Peak. The climbing routes on Trango Tower are known for their difficulty, featuring technical rock climbing, mixed terrain, and challenging weather conditions. The tower's steep faces and challenging features make it an iconic destination for serious climbers. The first successful ascent of the great Trango Tower was achieved in 1977 by a British-American team. They were Galen Rowell, John Roskelley, Kim Schmitz, Jim Morrissey, and Dennis Hennek. Since then, various climbing routes have been established on the tower, attracting elite climbers from around the world. Trango Tower, with its breathtaking setting and challenging climbing opportunities, has become a symbol of adventure and exploration in the world of mountaineering and rock climbing. It continues to attract skilled climbers who seek the thrill of conquering its formidable rock walls.
